Camera

My camera is an Olympus pen e-pl5. This camera is an SLR camera. I was searching for a great camera for a really long time since I always took al my photos with my phone. Now I have to say that I was quite happy with these photos as well but when I booked my first solo travel to Morocco I really felt like I needed a good camera to take some amazing shots on this adventure.

I bought the camera secondhand, though it seemed like it was completely new. An older couple bought it for themselves but they didn’t know how to use it so they were happy to sell it to me for a really good price!

Now the camera is build in 2012 so it isn’t a very new model and yet I’m very satisfied with it! I’m very proud of my Olympus pen e-pl5 and I like the photographs I shoot with this camera.

Some points I like about this camera:

- The Olympus pen e-pl5 is not heavy at all! The camera is tiny and easy to take with you in your travels. Since I like to take only the necessary with me on a day trip, this camera is perfect for me. It doesn’t take much space in my bag and it doesn’t make my bag heavy.

-It comes with an LCD screen that can be tilted up or down for angled shooting, which is really helpful to me! It makes it so much easier to shoot the perfect shot!

-This camera has a super-fast AF performance and it has great quality image!!

Batteries, memory cards and  charger

I always bring 2 fully charged Olympus batteries on my travels and I have one extra fully chargen battery but this one is of another brand called ChiliPower. Ive used this one a lot and Ive never got any problems with this battery either so if youre looking for a cheap extra battery, I guess this is a good solution.

In the past I had one only battery and I had some bad experiences with this. The battery got empty in the middle of the sahara desert of Morocco which took away my possibility of using this camera in the sand dunes.

I have two memory cards with me during my travels. In the past I carried 2 32GB memory cards with me and after a while I upgraded to 1 32GB memory card and another of 64GB. To me this works really well since I use the camera of my phone as well to make some of my photos. (For those who are interested, my phone is a Huawei P9 Lite)

The charger I use the universal desktop charger DTC-5101). This charger works amazingly well to me! The charger comes with home-charger and a charger for in the car as well which makes it possible for you to charge the batteries of your camera on the road as well.

Extras: I have some cheap extras which I use as well during some of my travels:

-I have a waterproof phone case which I really use a lot! I take it with me wherever I go. In Mexico I went on an excursion where we jumped off waterfalls. I took my phone with me in the waterproof case all the time to make photos and videos and it did work perfect.

-Selfie stick. Yeah, Im not a huge fan of it but I always take it with me anyway. Just in case. Since I travel solo most of the time, I dont have someone that can take photos of me all the time. Sometimes I solve this problem with the selfie stick but i prefer to just have my camera or phone on the timer and have it on a tripod and sometimes I just ask people around whether theyd like to take a photo for me.

So that’s it! This is all of the equipment I take with me on my travels. Everything usually fits into one backpack so it is not really hard to carry it with me all the time but the camera I take with me in it’s own bag.
